Mouse King

At the end of January this year, Konstantin Chaykin announced the release of the Mouse king watch. The inspiration for creating the new "ristmon" was the idea to link the theme of the zodiac animal of the Chinese calendar with the fairy-tale story of the Mouse king. Initially, it was assumed that the official presentation of the watch will take place at the end of April 2020 at BaselWorld-2020, however, due to the pandemic, the world's leading watch industry exhibition was canceled. Therefore, the Russian master decided to devote more time to the new project in order to perfect all its details. According to Konstantin Chaykin, the result was worth the effort – the finished watch turned out to be more interesting and cute than the original prototype.

Thanks to the careful finishing of the dial, the mouse's nose, decorated with a relief "guilloche" pattern, suddenly looked as if it was really covered with fur, and the linear relief worked just as well in the decoration of the character's mustache. The ears of the case, made in the form of mouse ears, are one of the most impressive design details. For the first time, this technique was tested in the "unique pig" watch, released by the beginning of 2019 according to the Chinese calendar, but there the character's ears were milled on the ears of the case of the usual shape, here the ears of the case were given the shape of mouse ears. This detail is harmoniously combined with the dial, made in the form of a mouse face, and with another unique design detail of this watch – the crown, which was designed by Konstantin Chaykin to look like the crown of the Mouse king.
The watch term "crown" in European languages is written as" crown " (French couronne, English crown, German Crown), so Konstantin has long been tempted to make a watch with a crown crown in the "12 o'clock" position – as a reminder of the early period of development of wristwatches, when watchmakers have not yet finally decided where the crown should stand in a wristwatch, and it occasionally appeared on top of the "12 o'clock" marker, especially when Lepin type mechanisms were used. "Mouse king" is the first time in the history of watchmaking when a watch is crowned with a real Royal "crown". Therefore, the Russian master decided that the crown should be made of 18-Karat gold and decorated with a real ruby-the crown jewel. The Royal crown appears in the design of the watch once again-in the rotor of the automatic winding system. The imposing character of the Mouse king watch is emphasized by another extraordinary detail-a high-class leather strap with an "ermine mantle"designed by Konstantin Chaykin specifically for this watch.
Especially for hours, "the Mouse king" by Konstantin Chaykin invented a modified module Joker-indications used in the collection, "Ratmanov". The changes were required due to the master's decision to crown the watch with a gold crown set at the 12 o'clock position. The same sophisticated finishing techniques are used to create the "Mouse king" watch face. according to the master, this is a mandatory attribute of the "high watchmaking"category. Contrary to the established market tradition of ordering dials from specialized suppliers, Konstantin Chaykin organized his own production of dials. Thanks to this solution, the Russian master completely controls the entire production process of creating the dial – from design development and 3D-layout to manufacturing parts on CNC milling machines and finishing and decoration performed exclusively by hand. Fine longitudinal and circular grinding, chamfering and polishing, abrasive-jet processing, four types of guilloche relief decoration, silvering and ruthenium coating are used in the finishing of dial details. Special attention is paid to the perfection of the lacquer coating, in particular, an unprecedented painstaking technique of multi-layer varnishing is applied to each detail of the dial from hundreds to several hundred of the thinnest layers of varnish, creating an incredibly impressive play of tones on the details of a complex three-dimensional structure.
To meet the wishes of collectors who would like to see in "ristman" the underlying mechanism prestigious category, Konstantin Chaykin decided to raise the caliber K07-1 hours "Mouse king" on the basis of thin automatic movement Vaucher 3002 Swiss factory Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. The future owner of one of the seven copies of the limited series will be able to personally verify this, for this purpose, a sapphire window is provided in the back cover of the case. The basic caliber was also modified by Chaykin, in particular, for the Mouse king watch, the rotor of the automatic winding system of a unique skeletonized design with a crown of seven heraldic pearls was created.
