LUNAR HIJRA

Tourbillon and lunar calendar

The creation of the “Lunar Hijra Clock” is based on the lunar Hijra (Islamic calendar) complication invented by Konstantin Chaykin. In the patented mechanism, the moon phase indicator, date, month, and day of the week as per the Islamic calendar are supplemented by date and month indications according to the Gregorian calendar.

Chaykin’s Islamic lunar calendar system acts an annual one, that is, its manual correction with alternating 29- and 30-day months is not required more than once every two years, namely in the leap years of the Islamic leap cycle, whether following the 30-year Arabic cycle or the 8-year Turkish cycle.

СASE BACK

The affiliation of the “Lunar Hijra Clock” to the world of haute horlogerie is emphasized by the “alpha” design carriage in the movement of the tourbillon, a signature feature of Konstantin Chaykin’s table clock tourbillons.

MOVEMENT

The calibre THJ.01-2 of the “Lunar Hijra Clock” was developed by Konstantin Chaykin and equipped with a calendar device with moonphase indicator, and date, month and day of the week indication he invented, according to the Islamic calendar. The movement was made entirely at the Konstantin Chaykin manufactory according to the standards of haute horlogerie. Components finished using classical techniques: fine longitudinal and circular grindings; manual chamfering, polishing; spherical polishing of the axle tips; and galvanized plating of nickel and gilding. A distinctive feature of the movement is the “alpha” carriage design, a signature feature of Konstantin Chaykin’s table tourbillons, as well as four screwed, gilded ouches of different sizes, in which three ball bearings and one jewel bearing are fixed.

Caliber: T01-3 4 by Konstantin Chaykin manufacture

Accuracy: of +/-20 sec/day

CASE

When developing the design of the clock, the main aim was to show the beauty of the manufacture of the movement, therefore there are special cut-outs in the dial, while in the case there are several windows of meticulously-polished crystal, which protect the mechanism from environmental influences and yet don’t prevent the admiration of the harmonious interaction of the exquisitely-made parts of the movement. The basic form of the case is an octagonal prism with transparent top, front, back and side faces. The unique appearance of each “Lunar Hijra Clock” is assured by the cases decorated in precious woods or Florentine mosaics.

Case dimensions: 248.5х255х123 mm/ 220х275х130 mm
