Pumpkin head

Happy Halloween!

Konstantin Chaykin gave the “Joker” and other “Wristmons” a fun, carefree character, therefore he decided that the eve of All Saints Day was a great occasion to launch a new “Wristmons”. That’s how the “Pumpkin Head Special Halloween 2017” came to be, the first of Konstantin Chaykin’s “Wristmons” to have a bronze case.

This alloy has become very popular among watch connoisseurs, mainly because the inherent disadvantage of its patina is now widely seen as a virtue. Patina, which inevitably arises on bronze, tells us that the time the owner has spent with this watch is priceless.

PRODUCTION

There is something special about watching the clock build. This is not just a mechanical process, but a real art, where the painstaking work of the master is combined with the precision of engineering thought. Assembling a watch is something that can fascinate, inspire, and give a sense of wonder.

СASE BACK

The final touch was a specially-ordered black alligator leather strap with orange lining, yellow stitching and yellow-painted sides.

CASE

Konstantin Chaykin decided that a suitable prototype for the Halloween “Wristmon” would be the “pumpkin head” – a lantern carved from a pumpkin, which tradition dictates should decorate houses at Halloween. As such, a pumpkin-orange colour was chosen for the dial and moon, and a lighter yellowy colour – as if it were the reflection of a candle placed inside the pumpkin lantern – for the eyes, moon disk, triangular nose and the edging of the dial. The Joker’s moon smile was easily transformed into a jack-o’lantern’s toothy smirk, and the “pumpkin” smile with the moon peeking through the teeth of this new character suddenly took on a distinctly tangible flavour of Halloween “gothic”. Instead of round eyes, Chaykin made them triangular, perfectly fitting for the “pumpkin head”. The background of the dial, instead of being in a wavy guilloche relief décor, received a straight-line radial décor, with a relief of large, flat edges, which gave a wonderful play of light reflections with the slightest movement of the watch.

MOVEMENT

Especially for the “Joker” and other models of the “Wristmons” collection Konstantin Chaykin developed a double-disc display for the hour and minute indications, as well as a moonphase indicator. In the construction and design of the movement, he was guided by the principles of haute horlogerie, despite the fact that the movement is hidden under an opaque dial. Konstantin Chaykin meticulously finished every part of the movement using classic techniques: perlage; fine longitudinal and circular grinding; abrasive blasting to a matte finish; a smooth handcrafted chamfer; engraving; polished screw holes, pins and jewels; spherical polishing of the axle tips; and galvanized rhodium plating. In total the module includes 8 jewels, designed to reduce friction, while the moonphase indicator is driven by a wheel with 59 teeth.
