The watchmaker and inventor Konstantin Chaykin has participated, for the second time, in one of the key events for the Russian design industry, the Russian Design Industry Forum. The event took place at the Carlton hotel in Moscow on April 18-19, 2024.

Konstantin Chaykin was one of the headliners of the “Design Visionaries” panel dedicated to the newest trends and technologies used in contemporary design. In his speech, the master spoke about his vision of the future of the watchmaking art.

«Mechanical watches have a number of unique advantages, which, I think, will keep them relevant not only in the next few decades, but hopefully throughout the rest of human history. What gives me such confidence? There are several reasons. There is the emotional aspect: we associate watches with the all-important notion of time, we pass them from generation to generation. There is also status, and collectors’ passion, there is esthetics. On the more rational side, the key factor is reliability and energy independence. Any gadget requires charging, while a mechanical watch is completely independent of outside energy sources. There are also ecological considerations. Mechanical watches work for decades, far longer than almost any other device. There is a number of additional considerations as well” – said the watchmaker.

The guest and participants of the Forum had a chance to see the newest model of Konstantin Chaykin’s popular Wristmons collection — the Joker Classic watch, premiered in early April at the Masters of Horology exhibition in Geneve, as wells as several other pieces of watchmaking art created by the Russian master. Among them is the ultra-complex movement of the Lukomorie clock with graphical hour indication, invented by Chaykin; a model from the master’s “space program” — the Lunokhod Prime in a gold case, its design inspired by the first Soviet planet rover; the Cinema watch with a miniature movie projector playing the historic “Horse in motion” footage by Eadweard Muybridge, the cinematography pioneer, and other models from the master’s classic collections.
